Legendary Brooklyn Tattoo artist Tony Polito

Tattoo artist, Tattoo flash, Tattoo icon, Tattoo studio

A couple weeks ago I was fortunate enough to buy an original flash sheet that was hanged at the walls of legendary Brooklyn Tattoo artist Tony Polito´s Old Calcutta.

For those who don’t know, Tony is a legend. Tattooing in Brooklyn since 1959, in the early 1970´s he was at some point the only tattooer in NYC when tattooing was banned.

His first shop was located in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn and it was affectionately called Old Calcutta. The story behind the name of the shop is very interesting and very well explained in “Saturdays with Polito”, an interview Tattoo artist Rich Fie made back in February 2014. Totally worth it and highly recommended if you want to learn more about this true old school new yorker. http://richfie.com/tag/old-calcutta/

The guys at intenze together with Stan Moskowitz came up with a nice Bowery ink set and a series of videos. In these two clips below Stan visits Tony at his shop, talk about the old days and gets a very meaningfull tattoo on his arm. Don´t miss it!
